                                                                                                                                   (THE BORINQUENEERS)


Constituted 2 March 1899 in the Volunteer Army as the Puerto Rico Regiment of Volunteer Infantry

1st Battalion organized 24 March 1899 at San Juan, Puerto Rico as the Puerto Rico Battalion; 2d Battalion organized 12 February 1900 at Henry Barracks, Puerto Rico, as the Mounted Battalion

Reorganized and redesignated 20 February 1900 as the Puerto Rico Regiment of Volunteer Infantry with Headquarters at San Juan

Reorganized and redesignated 1 July 1901 as the Puerto Rico Provisional Regiment of Infantry

Redesignated 30 June 1908 as the Puerto Rico Regiment of Infantry and allotted to the Regular Army

Redesignated 14 September 1920 as the 65th Infantry

Assigned 22 September 1950 to the 3d Infantry Division

Relieved 3 November 1954 from assignment to the 3d Infantry Division

Assigned 2 December 1954 to the 23d Infantry Division

Inactivated 10 April 1956 at Camp Losey, Puerto Rico, and relieved from assignment to the 23d Infantry Division

Withdrawn 6 February 1959 from the Regular Army and allotted to the Puerto Rico Army National Guard as a parent regiment under the Combat Arms Regimental System

Organized 15 February 1959 to consist of the 1st Battle Group, an element of the 92d Infantry Brigade

Reorganized 1 May 1964 to consist of the 1st Battalion, an element of the 92d Infantry Brigade

Reorganized 1 April 1971 to consist of the 1st Battalion, an element of the 92d Infantry Brigade, and Company E

Reorganized 1 September 1978 to consist of the 1st and 2d Battalions, elements of the 92d Infantry Brigade, and Company E

Reorganized 29 February 1980 to consist of the 1st and 2d Battalions, elements of the 92d Infantry Brigade

Withdrawn 27 October 1987 from the Combat Arms Regimental System and reorganized under the United States Army Regimental System with Headquarters at Cayey

Reorganized 1 September 1992 to consist of the 1st Battalion, an element of the 92d Infantry Brigade

Ordered into active Federal service 14 February 2003 at home stations; released from active Federal service 12 February 2005 and reverted to territorial control

Redesignated 1 October 2005 as the 65th Infantry Regiment

Ordered into active Federal service 30 March 2009 at home stations
